Description

Massie is a lyricist and melody maker. An observer of the world around and empathy with the people in it. Since his teenage years, he has always been able to articulate those views in the written word and with the radio and record player, a constant in the family home, he could identify a good tune and clever lyric from an early age.

When his elder sisters’ friends included cool guitar players, he soon gave up the violin (although he did learn to read music) for the guitar. With a love of English and language, the poems became lyrics and then they were set to melodies. When Massie met Jerry Evans at the age of 16, their first band, Bad Habits performed original songs, with most written by Massie. They still reflect happily on those times and some of the naïve lyrics!

And so, years followed of writing and performing songs, as a solo artist and with bands, some recording along the way and all charting his experiences, thoughts and opinions. There have been some tough times and adversity on the way, however as a positive creative soul, these challenges have made him stronger and wiser. And it is time to capture, record and release some of these songs.

Massie’s debut album is called Wise—and the title is deliberate. The word is defined as ‘having the ability to use knowledge, experience and deep understanding to make sound insightful judgements and decisions in life’. These songs are what that looks like in practice; a glimpse of life as it was and is today, with a concern about tomorrow.

Reflective, yet fundamentally positive. Honest opinions, though never without warmth. Wise with a capital W and a Skruffy Records attitude.

The album features eight tracks: some have been around and performed for a while, others very recent. Together they chart a life—its adversities overcome, its opportunities seized and the hard-won wisdom of someone still living the dream.
